After the World Cup 2023, Shubman Gill is a part of the forthcoming T20I and Test Series against South Africa.
Brian Lara showered praises on the Indian opener Shubman Gill by marking him as the most talented batsman of the present generation.
Shubman Gill is one such star cricketer who has perfectly justified the essence of rising talents in international cricket.
Surprisingly, a legendary batsman has not preferred Virat Kohli, who has recently surpassed Sachin’s lifetime record by achieving the most number of hundred in ODIs.
Instead, Brian Lara chose Shubman Gill by providing a statement with confidence of breaking his lifetime records.
Additionally, Brian Lara praises Shubman Gill by declaring that he will rule the world of cricket in the forthcoming years of his career.
Also, the 54-year-old legendary cricketer backed Gill to win many ICC tournaments by scoring huge runs for his nation.
Shubman Gill made his entry into the world of international cricket against New Zealand by playing his first ODI match on 31st January 2019.
At present, the 24-year-old right-handed batsman is rated as the top ODI batter in the world.
Within a short period, Gill has achieved stardom across all the formats with the following records:
Gill made his test debut against Australia on 26th December 2020 at MCG, Australia. In these 3 years, Gill played a total of 18 matches. Out of which, the star batsman scored 966 runs in 33 innings, including 4 fifties and 2 hundreds. This includes the highest score of 128 runs against Australia in 2023.
Shubman Gill crossed the 2000-run mark in his 38th ODI innings and became the fastest batsman to achieve the feat. With 44 innings, Gill has accumulated a total of 2,271 runs in ODIs. This includes 13 fifties, 6 hundreds, and 1 double-hundred. Especially, his double century of 208 runs against New Zealand commenced the year 2023 with a great start.
Earlier, at the beginning of 2023, Shubman Gill made his T20I debut against New Zealand. Gill scored an overall 304 runs in 11 matches, including a half-century and century with his best score of 126 runs.
Interestingly, Shubman Gill is the highest individual run-scoring Indian batsman and the 11th highest among the list of other international batsmen in T20I cricket.
The former West Indies cricketer holds a magnificent record with an individual score of 400 runs in test cricket. Moreover, the veteran batsman had scored an unbeaten knock of 501 runs. The mammoth individual score was achieved by Brian Lara in a County Championship match against Durham in the year 1994 while playing for his team Warwickshire.
Brian Lara’s record has proven to be impossible to surpass for many cricketers. Even, the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar found it impossible to break this record.
But, Brian Lara praises Shubman Gill by strongly predicting that the young cricketer can surpass his best record by sharing his opinion in a recent interview:
“I can certify with firm conviction. Shubman Gill possesses the ability to outperform my unbeaten records in cricket. He is one such talented batsman and the most gifted cricketer of his team in the current generation.
In the approaching years, he will rule the world of cricket and dominate with his performance.
So many years have passed but no one has managed to edge the records. My conviction is so firm that he is on a journey to establish many new milestones by shattering numerous significant records in the future. I am sure that he will and he can do it. Gill can surpass my best record of *501 if he participates in the County Championship. Whereas, in international Test Cricket, he can beat my best lifetime score of 400 runs.”
Conclusively, Brian Lara feels that the Young cricketer has achieved many impressive records within a short time. Also, Lara judges that Gill has more to achieve in the upcoming phases of his career. Moreover, the former West Indies cricketer highlights Shubman Gill’s batting technique across all three formats:
“Though Shubman couldn’t score a century in World Cup 2023 by achieving 50+ scores in 3 matches, it’s crucial to examine his performance before the tournament. After glimpsing through his innings, it becomes apparent that the young and talented batsman has registered centuries in all three formats of international cricket.
Notably, his double hundred in ODIs against New Zealand was indeed exceptional. Also, Gill has made countless match-winning contributions to his team in IPL. Have you ever observed his dynamic strategy of charging down the track aggressively to powerfully smash the seamers straight down the ground?
The form in which he bats is outstanding! I hold a strong belief that he is destined to excel with his brilliance in several upcoming ICC tournaments”
