Which player could replace Will Jacks in RCB Playing XI vs CSK in IPL 2024 on May 18?

Any of these players cricketers namely Glenn Maxwell, Tom Curran or Suyash Prabhudessai could replace Will Jacks in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) playing XI for their upcoming match on 18th May 2024 (Saturday) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

After achieving a massive win against Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs on Sunday (12th May), the RCB faced a huge blow as Will Jacks and Reece Topley returned to the United Kingdom. This is because the England cricket team required the presence of these two core players to initiate their preparation for a 5-match T20I series against Pakistan starting on 22nd May.

Jacks maintaining consistency in every game helped RCB bounce back and keep their playoff hopes alive following their poor performance in the first half of IPL 2024. Out of 8 innings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Will Jacks scored 230 runs at a strike rate of 175.57         and 32.86 average. He smashed 16 fours and 18 sixes in the IPL 2024 season so far. It includes his blistering 41-ball century against Gujarat Titans (GT) and a brilliant half-century of 55 runs from 32 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Moreover, RCB’s campaign seems to be in jeopardy due to the absence of their 25-year-old English all-rounder. This is because Will Jacks has played a crucial role in the team’s recent success. After finding their rhythm by winning five games sequentially, RCB is forced to implement some unusual changes in the do-or-die clash against CSK. In such situations, let us delve deeper into the possible three names who could become an ideal replacement for Will Jacks in RCB’s playing XI.

Expected replacements for Will Jacks in RCB’s Playing XI

These are the three cricketers who can replace Will Jacks in the playing XI of RCB for the forthcoming match and their performances are evaluated below in detail:

1. Glenn Maxwell:

The Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been facing one of the worst seasons of his IPL career. In 8 matches, he scored just 36 runs and maintained a poor strike rate of 97.30 and 5.14 average. In terms of bowling, Maxwell took just 5 wickets in 8 matches, by conceding 104 runs, which includes his best bowling figures of 2-23.

However, RCB were able to find a perfect winning combination by dropping the 35-year-old Australian star cricketer. Once again, Maxwell might get an opportunity to prove his best talents.

At the same time, few experts have a dull opinion about Maxwell’s performance as a player doubting that he wouldn’t get a chance to guide his team into the playoffs by winning the upcoming match. It is a challenge for the Aussie cricketer to conclude the campaign on a high note and regain his best form ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

2. Tom Curran:

RCB acquired England’s all-rounder Tom Curran for the base price of INR 1.5 Crores in the IPL 2024 auction. He is yet to play his first game of the ongoing season and Will Jacks’s departure could provide him a golden opportunity to prove his worth.

His variations as a medium pacer with the ball and a handy right-handed batsman at the No.7 position could provide support to Dinesh Karthik in the lower middle order.

3. Suyash Prabhudessai:

Suyash Prabhudessai has played a single game in this tournament so far and scored 24 runs from 18 balls (including 3 fours) against KKR on 21st April 2024 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Also, he has shown a lot of trust in batting lower in the order and RCB can give him another chance to form a perfect finishing combination along with Dinesh Karthik.

Conclusion:

It is expected that Will Jacks’s absence can promote Cameron Green to No.3, and continue with Rajat Patidar at No.4. Either Suyash Prabhudessai or Glenn Maxwell could secure their spot in the playing XI and bat at the No.5 position.

Although, Tom Curran’s chances of getting selected seem to be lower since he hasn’t played a single game for his team. Moreover, RCB couldn’t afford to take such risks by implementing a new combination in a crucial phase of the tournament.

Also, the qualification chances for RCB would only be possible if they defeat CSK within 18.1 overs or secure a win by an 18-run margin or more. Additionally, they would hope for SRH and LSG to lose their forthcoming matches, to make a grand entry into the playoffs.

Ultimately, Glenn Maxwell has the maximum chance of being a part of RCB’s playing 11 as an experienced all-rounder. Once he gets back into his form, he can make an outstanding contribution as a right-handed batter and right-arm off-spin bowler. Especially, Maxwell’s ability to accumulate huge runs under such crucial moments of the match can help his team secure a thumping victory against CSK.
